Do any other owners struggle with lifting off the hardtop & replacing it? My oldest son & I can lift it on & off easily but as he is around less & less I have lifted it with my wife, who finds it a struggle. I have been thinking about the possibility of building a winch mounted on garage column with acouple of pulleys (boat trailer winch, maybe?) Not sure how I would attach to hardtop without damaging paint etc. Maybe could leave hardtop suspended from roof when not in use as it takes up loads of space in garage.Has anyone tried this? Any ideas or info would be appreciated. Cheers, Chris. |

Do you use it alot then ?,most people i talk to say it's in the way most of the time. When i got my Stag i looked for one without the hard top so i didn't pay for something i wouldn't ever use.If you don't use it you could get good money on ebay for it.

I heard of people making a winch attached to the roof of the garage with a pulley system. Not got a hard top on mine also, in fact at the moment haven't even got a soft-top on... mines still a rolling shell at the moment and taking a lot longer to sort the rust out than expected, at least you don't have to worry as much about that in Oz Chris!

Thanks for the reply, DeeJay. Love your work! This is exactly what I had in mind, although I would have to devise some hooks or similar as I don't use a roof rack. not sure how without damaging paint though. I'm curious to know how easy the lowering process is - I'm assuming the ratchet is disengaged, so you are taking the weight of hardtop. You've inspired me! I must get cracking on mine now. Cheers, Chris.
